Hans Chen, of Silver Spring, Maryland, joined the Firm in May 2018. Mr. Chen handles a variety of employment and labor matters involving business tort and contract claims, as well as employment discrimination, retaliation, and trade secret claims.
Prior to joining Charlson Bredehoft Cohen & Brown, Mr. Chen was a senior litigation counsel at the United States Department of Justice, Civil Division, where he litigated matters on behalf of the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Homeland Security. At the Department of Justice, Mr. Chen handled cases, including nationwide class actions, involving constitutional claims, complex regulations and statutes, national security issues, and challenges to agency regulations and adjudications.
Prior to the Justice Department, Mr. Chen practiced commercial litigation at Cooley, LLP in Reston, Virginia, and at Blank Rome LLP, in New York, New York. There, he represented both large corporate and small business clients in a range of business disputes, including civil litigation, trademark disputes, and white-collar defense.
Mr. Chen graduated from Columbia University in 1997 with a B.A. in Political Science. Mr. Chen earned a Master of Science in Journalism in 1998 from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He earned his J.D. in 2004, graduating cum laude from Fordham University Law School. While in law school, Mr. Chen was a Notes and Articles Editor for the Fordham Urban Law Journal, as well as a Teaching Assistant in the Legal Writing Program. Mr. Chen is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia and New York.
